I posted this.......

"Alexsey (Alosha is his nickname) is a three year old little boy with Spina Bifida who would be a delightful addition to any family. I know because I took these pictures of him when we were in Ukraine adopting Dennis last month. He is an absolute sweetie pie. Out of all the children there, I would have chosen him, hands down if we were able to adopt another child at this time. He has the sweetest demeanor, much like Dennis' and his smile could be seen across the playground. I can tell just by the way he interacted with me that he has so much potential. He seemed very inquisitive and I could visualize how he would take off exploring his world if he was just given the chance like our Dennis was. He is able to pull himself up to a standing position and he can walk along the playpen railing by holding onto it. He can follow along in little games and he appears to catch on to things very quickly. When I took a picture of him and then showed it to him, he smiled and asked for more in Russian. I continued to take pictures of him and I could tell it made his day to have the attention. I bet he can live a near normal life if he just had a family to give him the love and attention that every child deserves."

Pray with me.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Be with Alexsey today. Lift his spirits. Lift the spirits of those who care for him. Prepare the way for us to do all that is necessary to bring this little boy home. I pray that Your hands can carefully mend his body in such a way that he will be able to live comfortably someday soon..... freely able to walk, go to the bathroom, stand, swing, rollerskate--- all things that I take for granted. Lord, we love and stand amazed at all that is happening in this adoption thus far. Thank you.

This is so exciting!

Will we learn more about Alexsey soon?...like, how old is he?
So it sounds like he knows Russian...have you ever had to teach one of your kids English? I just wondered...in any case, still praying and he is going to have such a happy life...too bad you have to wait until August! But there will be lots to do until then. :)

Alexey is a very sweet looking boy and the way you described him was just filled with love. Here's wishing you a very uncomplicated process (is that even possible?)

Blessings!

Christine -
Take a look at what you wrote on January 21, 2007. Perhaps one of your shortest posts but when I read what you wrote in your entry about adopting Alexsey, about how you know you can't save the world, I immediately thought of that quote.

"Adopting one child won't change the world; but for that child, the world will change."

Not sure where you got the quote, but it's on your Smiles & Trials blog, 1/21/07.

I think this little guy was definitely meant for your family. I'm still so excited for you and for him.

I just had to smile when I read your post on smiles and trials about committing to Alexsey. I frequent R.R. "other angels" pages often and pray for the kids their. Some kids really stand out, Alexsey being one of them. Particularly because my first baby brother died at 7 months gestation...he would have had Spina Bifida. I have such a heart for special needs kids but am especiall drawn to kids with Cerebral palsey and spina bifida (my little sister has c.p.). When several months ago i first saw you advocating for him, I constantly checked out to see if he'd been committed to. then one day he WAS comitted to. Shortly after, you posted that it was YOUR family who committed to him. I know he will fit in so perfectly with your family. What fun for Dennis to have a brother from the same area he came from. I will certainly be praying!!!

Last weekend my husband and I went to a marriage retreat. The Pastor who spoke, Dr. Mike Fabarez, Compass Bible Church in Aliso Viegjo, gave a testimony about his children. His daughter was born with Spinal Bifida. She has had surgery to close the opening in her back, she has no bowel control and her feet are paralized. She was an adorable 6 year old who is now walking with braces on her legs. She stood handing out books with her two older brothers. Both parents considered her to be the biggest blessing in their life. They were so encouraging. All that to say, you may be able to contact him and his wife for resources in CA. when you get Alexsy home!
